Locate FCI Williamsburg Inmates

Federal Correctional Institution Williamsburg is a federal Bureau of Prisons facility in Williamsburg County, South Carolina, and it is separate from the county jail system. To look up inmates at Federal Correctional Institution Williamsburg, use the federal inmate locator rather than county detention records or the state corrections search. The facility holds sentenced federal inmates, so local arrests, county bond court, state-prison sentences, and immigration custody must be checked through their own agencies. Federal records also use federal terms, visiting rules, mail rules, and money procedures.

FCI Williamsburg Overview

Federal Correctional Institution Williamsburg, commonly called FCI Williamsburg, is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. It is physically located in Williamsburg County at Salters, but it is not a Williamsburg County jail and does not publish a county-style jail roster. Its population is sentenced federal custody, and its rules come from BOP policy, local institution supplements, and federal inmate communication systems.

FCI Williamsburg and Williamsburg County Detention Center answer different custody questions. The county jail handles local arrests, bond court, and local detention. FCI Williamsburg handles people sentenced in federal cases after BOP designation. A person arrested in Williamsburg County is not searched through FCI Williamsburg unless federal custody has become the correct pathway.

Use that BOP facility page for institution-specific resources, then use the national BOP locator for the actual inmate search.

FCI Williamsburg Population

The BOP facility page displays a live population field, so a fixed population number can change after publication. Use the BOP page as the source to check for current federal population rather than relying on a hardcoded count. The local visiting regulation does provide safe visiting-room capacity figures: 299 people for the FCI visiting room and 118 people for the satellite camp visiting room.

FCI Williamsburg Inmate Lookup

Use the BOP Inmate Locator for Federal Correctional Institution Williamsburg inmates. The locator covers federal inmates incarcerated from 1982 to the present, and it searches BOP records rather than county booking data. It does not publish federal mugshots. Result fields documented in the research include name, register number, age, race, sex, release date, and location, along with links for institution, mail, phone or email, money, visits, and concerns.

  1. Open the BOP Inmate Locator and choose either a number search or a name search.
  2. For a number search, choose BOP Register Number, DCDC Number, FBI Number, or INS Number, then enter the number.
  3. For a name search, enter first and last name, then narrow with race, age, or sex if needed.
  4. Review the result location and confirm whether it lists FCI Williamsburg or another BOP institution.
  5. Use the institution and visiting links in the result for facility-specific next steps.

The official BOP locator screenshot comes from the Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator and shows the federal search path.

The locator is the correct tool for sentenced federal inmates, while the Williamsburg County Detention Center phone remains the local-custody route for recent county arrests.

FCI Williamsburg Contact

BOP lists FCI Williamsburg in Salters, South Carolina. Use the facility phone for institution routing questions, not to replace the BOP locator search. BOP mail and money instructions are strict, so the facility street address should not be used as a guess for deposits or every type of correspondence.

FCI Williamsburg Visiting

FCI Williamsburg visiting rules come from the BOP facility page and local visiting supplement. Social visiting is listed for Saturdays, Sundays, and federal holidays from 8 am to 3 pm. Visitors are not processed before 8 am or after 2 pm. Newly committed inmates are not allowed social visits during the first 72 hours while proposed visitors are investigated.

DayHoursProcessing RuleType
Saturday8 am to 3 pmNo processing before 8 am or after 2 pmSocial visiting
Sunday8 am to 3 pmNo processing before 8 am or after 2 pmSocial visiting
Federal holidays8 am to 3 pmNo processing before 8 am or after 2 pmSocial visiting

The usual approved visiting list limit is 20 people. Inmates housed at the FCI or satellite camp are limited to five adult visitors at one time, while children under 16 are not counted in that adult limit. SHU visits use video monitors and normally do not exceed three hours on weekends. Visiting-room crowding can lead to terminations based on travel distance, time already spent visiting, and relationship to the inmate.

FCI Williamsburg Entry Rules

Visitors must clear screening. Cell phones, pagers, and electronic devices are not allowed in the visiting room. The local supplement limits personal items and allows items such as valid photo identification, a clear small change purse within the listed size limit, limited baby items, life-maintenance medications, reasonable jewelry, a sweater or light jacket, feminine hygiene items, and no more than $25 for refreshments. Tobacco is not allowed.

  • NCIC checks may be part of visitor approval.
  • Unit Team controls ordinary visitor-list approvals.
  • Special, attorney, clergy, and professional visits use separate approval paths.
  • Parking-lot loitering is prohibited.
  • Large vehicles cannot be left on institution grounds overnight.

Note: Confirm approval, visit timing, and allowed items with FCI Williamsburg before traveling to Salters.

FCI Williamsburg Mail Money

BOP mail and money rules differ from county jail practice. BOP says inmate mail must use the inmate's full committed name and register number with the facility mail format. Money should not be sent to the FCI Williamsburg facility address. Funds mailed for federal inmates go through the national processing center in Des Moines, Iowa, and BOP's money rules apply to all federal inmates.

The FCI Williamsburg facility page also links an admission and orientation handbook, commissary list, legal activities policy, and PREA audit materials. Those documents are better sources than third-party prison directories because they come from BOP.

Williamsburg County Custody Differences

FCI Williamsburg should not be used as a substitute for a county jail lookup. Williamsburg County Detention Center is the local facility for new arrests, bond court, and pretrial detention. The Williamsburg County Detention Center page covers that local jail path. SCDC is the state prison system for people sentenced to South Carolina Department of Corrections custody. BOP is the federal sentenced-inmate system.

FCI Williamsburg Records

BOP locator results are custody-location records, not a full criminal case file. They can show federal custody location and release-date information, but court filings and sentencing records belong in the federal court system. Release dates can change because BOP warns that First Step Act recalculations and other sentence-credit updates may affect currency.

Federal mugshots are not published through the BOP locator. That differs from SCDC, which publishes photos for current SCDC inmates in its public search, and from county booking-photo rules under South Carolina public-records law. FCI Williamsburg also should not be described as an ICE detention center. Immigration custody is checked through ICE, while federal criminal custody is checked through BOP or, for pretrial federal defendants, through the federal court and U.S. Marshals pathway.

FCI Williamsburg Conditions

BOP provides more public facility documents for FCI Williamsburg than the county provides for the local jail. The official facility page links PREA materials, admission and orientation information, a commissary list, and legal-activities resources. A PREA audit report posted by BOP on April 12, 2024, is the strongest dated official conditions document located for a detention facility physically in Williamsburg County.

Those documents should be kept distinct from county jail inspection law. South Carolina jail inspection statutes apply to local and state confinement settings within their scope, while FCI Williamsburg is a federal facility operated by BOP. For local jail capacity and local bond court, use the county detention sources. For federal visiting, money, mail, programs, and PREA materials, use BOP sources.

Federal custody rule: BOP records are for sentenced federal inmates and do not replace county jail, SCDC, ICE, or court case records.
